Mezzo-soprano Agy Lejman Norris began her professional career as a soloist with the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra. She earned her B.A. in Voice and Theory from UCLA and her M.A. in Early Music from USC, where she studied with James Tyler. She studied voice privately in San Francisco with Jane Randolph, and as young musician she performed choral music with Linda Anderson for 5 years in the Santa Monica school district music programs. She has since performed with chamber groups which champion both early and contemporary music. She has sung with the L.A. Master Chorale, L.A. Chamber Singers, I Cantori, Long Beach Opera, L.A. Opera Chorus, and has worked with conductors such as John Adams, Grant Gershon, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Michael Tilson Thomas. She has toured nationally with Zephyr and the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, and internationally, including Japan with the Roger Wagner Chorale under Jeannine Wagner. Ms. Lejman Norris has also sung on various feature film and commercial soundtracks.
Currently she performs with de Angelis under the direction of Matthew Gray, and she performed with the Los Angeles Chamber Singers’ Cappella for 12 years under Peter Rutenberg, which won the Grammy Award in 2007 for their CD Padilla: Sun of Justice. She was a staff singer and cantor at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Church in Encino, where she worked from 2001 – 2011 under the direction of William Beck.
Ms. Lejman Norris is a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists, the Music Teacher’s Association of California (serving on both the Board of MTAC-West Los Angeles branch as Vice-President for 2 years, and now as a founding Board member of the MTAC-Santa Monica Bay Branch), and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Currently she is training for adjudication certification in the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. She was also an applied faculty member at Mt. St. Mary’s College. Her students have performed as soloists in local, national and international productions. They have won top prizes and earned distinction in Kiwanis, MTAC solo, SYMF, and statewide V.O.C.E. competitions. They have been selected for SCVA Honor Choirs, All-State and Western State Honor Choirs. Her high school students have been admitted to top universities in the Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York areas.
Agy Lejman Norris maintains a private voice studio in Santa Monica, where she resides with her husband Sean and favorite son Connor.
